If you haven't already resolved the geography from the photo above, let me attach a few labels...

The village originally comprised ribbon development along the Chestfield Road. However, in recent times, it has expanded on either side of the roadway. It is also interesting to note that the South Tankerton housing development (built in the late 1960s and early 1970s) has now spread westward to form a link with the long established hamlet of South Street. Building has also progressed to the east and established links with Chestfield along the lines of Grasmere Road and the Old Thanet Way.

The photo also shows just how far south the New Thanet Way was constructed. The relocation of Thanet-to-London traffic has paved the way for commercial and leisure development along the old road in the bottom right corner. This now includes a health centre, rugby club, superstores and a business park as shown in the extract below.....

The arrival of the New Thanet Way had some impact on the the South Western corner of the village. The shot below shows the dual carriageway cutting a path across the foot of Radfall Hill. The Chestfield Road has been re-aligned slightly and now curves under a bridge before mounting the wooded hill.

Our next shot is even more remarkable and it may interest local golfers. It contains Chestfield Golf Course....  all  of it!.

Thornden wood appears in the background and the village in the foreground. In between, we have the first and eighteenth holes on the east side of the Molehill Road and the other sixteen nightmares to the west. The course had to be re-arranged quite substantially to accommodate the demands of the New Thanet Way. However, not much of the 'motorway' is now visible as landscaping included a tunnel. The line forged by the road is shown by the yellow arrows in our next picture.....

The dotted line indicates the tunnel section. Amazingly, the photo is an enlarged extract plucked from an aerial photo of Tankerton sea front.... which demonstrates the high resolution of Peter's camera!

Of course, away from the main roads, village life continues with some well known facilities including Chestfield Cricket Ground (Grasmere Road)....

... Radfall recreation ground...

... and the village green...
