C&WR - Line and Features

We are working towards a permanent feature on the old Canterbury-Whitstable Railway and we start with a fascinating collection of photos kindly provided by Mike Hatton and Peter Dalrymple.

We have added a brief commentary and included anecdotes from James Styles and Garth Wyver.

Natives Abroad

As regular readers will know, we are about to create a new section devoted to "Natives Abroad". This will include stories of their journey to their new home, their new surroundings, new life and why they chose to emigrate.

This week, George T Marshall provides a whole collection of photos and mementoes of emigration to Australia in 1968 as a "£10 Pom".

Horsebridge Pier

Recent discussions in the Visitors Book have generated memories of the old jetty at the Horsebridge. Now, Tony Stroud has very kindly given us the chance to view the structure.... thanks to a fascinating family photograph.

Fond Memories

In our last chat column we featured shots of two local features of the 1950s.... the Westmeads gymkhana and the rafts at Tankerton Beach. Terry Phillips adds to more photos to the collection... and poses a question.
