This unbelievable shot was taken at Beach Walk where the
remains of old swing boats were still in evidence in 1963.
The eeriness of scenes such as this is beautifully
summed up by Jackie in her email accompanying the photos...
| "The thing that sticks in my mind
is going over to Hampton Pier at Herne Bay and sensing absolute
quiet - except for the sound of the ice floes creaking
as they rubbed against each other. It was really eerie and
I don't think I will ever forget it." "I
can also remember walking out on
the ice floes off the beach near Jacques arcade. I managed to
step between 2 floes and ended up to my knees in freezing cold
water - ruining my smart leather boots. I would
have been about 18 at the time!"
