This view of the harbour shows fishing boats trapped and immobile
in the frozen seas of 1962/63. Ripples of water were captured in the
sub-zero temperatures to provide a maritime version of a petrified forest.
The photograph is also fascinating from another aspect.
Back in 1963, there was no West Quay pier and an old silo occupied the North Quay. The picture below shows what it looks like
today.
