3rd Whitstable Guides... With Thanks to Sue Pidford

It wasn't just the 3rd Whitstable Scouts and lads that made camp at All Saints.... as Sue Pidford explains from her home in New Zealand....

Hi Dave,

Well, not to be outdone by my brother, Bill Dancer, here is a photo of a Girl Guide camp! Must be about 1954/55.

We had heavy canvas Bell tents that spent most of the year rolled up. Hence, the tents smelt awful, especially with five Guides encapsulated at night.

Cold, damp morning trips out to the hand dug latrines and badly cooked food really put me off the great outdoors for life. However I am very grateful to those who gave of their time to give us Guides this experience.

The Guides are (left to right); Philippa Lee, Jean Moss, Josephine Piper, Susan Dancer (ie me!) and ???? . Other details escape my memory.

Greeting from New Zealand....

Sue

Note: Bill Dancer has provided the missing name for the guide on the right  Here is Bill's comment...

"I see sister Sue has sent in a 3rd Whitstable Guide picture and I think the "????" person is Aubrey Pierce's (of bespoke tailoring renown) daughter Margaret".
