The All Saints youth organisations performed a great service to young people.... but, inevitably time and people move on. The austere years of the immediate aftermath of World War II faded into history and Whitstable began to wake up to what peace time really. 

Towards the end of the 1950s, the wake up call took the form of music... fashion.....  and Elvis. Thus some of the youngsters of the Youth Fellowship moved on.... to expresso coffee at the new Valentes Coffee Bars at Tankerton and in the High Street.... to juke boxes.... to the Dansette record player..... and the beach. 

Friendships continued..... as Sue Pidford explains....  

 

   

After outgrowing the All Saint's youth club, we stayed together as a group....

"The Gang", as we called ourselves, met most weekends on Tankerton Slopes or at Valentes Ice Cream Parlour.... and, later as age permitted, in the Marine Hotel.

My brother had a battery operated record player that I took along to Tankerton Slopes on fine weekend days. The Gang brought along their latest LP's and we lazed for hours listening to our favourite music. 

Buddy Holly was my favourite. They were days of record players, singles and LP's and you could go into booths in record shops and listen to records before purchasing or not.
