Waverley Paddlestreamer - Whitstable to Tower Bridge 7 October

Photograph 41-42 : Leaving the Pool and Canary Wharf

After a half hour in the Pool of London, it is time for the Waverley to return down the Thames to Tilbury. The first step is to make its way back through Tower Bridge (above) and circumnavigate Canary Wharf in the fading light (below).

Photographs 43-44: Back Via the Thames Barrier

Above: Lights on the Thames Barrier are now beginning to burn bright. Notice that the green arrows identify the path that Waverley must take.

Below: The barrier is swiftly left in the ship's wake as grey skies make  a forlorn attempt at a sunset.

Photographs 45-46: Darkness Descends

Above: Daylight disappears as the ship makes its way east along the Thames. By now, most passengers have found refuge in the bar, lounges and restaurant of the Waverley. However, a few hardy souls still brave the cold evening breeze.

Below: Those that stay aloft witness the 24/7 nature of work on the Thames.... as with this ship being serviced on the north bank.

Photographs 47-48: The QEII Bridge at Night

Above and Below: The final dramatic scenes are provided by the Queen Elizabeth II bridge at Dartford. Shortly after passing beneath its span, the Waverley docks at Tilbury allowing passengers to return to Whitstable by coach
