Oxford St
Juniors
Better known as the 'Boys School' this was
the first of the town's state schools - opening in 1877). It is
now co-ed.

Sir William Nottidge Now
known as the CommunityCollege, this was Whitstable's first state
secondary school - opening in the early 1950s as a direct result
of the Education Act of 1944 |

Endowed
School
Opened by St Alphege Church in the 1840s, this is the
oldest of Whitstable's surviving schools It became the town's
premier girls school but is now co-ed |
Westmeads
Infants
A state school that replaced Albert Street
Infants in 1904 and survives to this day.

Street Infants
Opened in 1877, the school was replaced by
Wetsmeads in 1904 but the building continued to create a
fascinating history.

 Mrs
Lamb's Meadow Croft
Known to many children of the 1950s simply as
"Mrs Lamb's" the school was both a nursery and 'early junior'
establishment. It closed many years ago.

The
Soderberg School
Officially known as the Argyle School, this establishment
survived in Nelson Road from the mid-1920s until 1949.... under the guidance of
proprietor, Effy Soderberg.

Whitstable & Tankerton Collegiate
A small but well known private school that
continued into the 1950s. The initials gave rise to an
affectionate local name - the 'Tom Cat School'

Kings Leigh School
A small private school in Northwood Road that may have catered
primarily for children outside the area.

Dunelm
School
Located in Tankerton Road, this
popular private school survived into the 1960s.

81 and 81A High Street
This building housed a number of schools over
the years.... the Phipps Prep, The Hawley School (Clare House) and even
a Dance School

A school located at All Saints
Church in the 1930s
