The Lapel Badges
Apart from the general school badge, the Sir William Nottidge
bestowed other insignia based on status and achievement. These
took the form of small metal lapel badges and they formed an important part of life at
the school during the early years. The
Prefect Badge
School prefects were awarded a badge in the shape of a
shield....
At this point, it is worth noting the importance and
prominence of the "house" system in school life. The
prefect badges came in four colours - to denote the house from
which the prefect had been chosen. Thus, the one on the left was
the property of one of my brothers (who belonged to
"Minters" house) and the other was owned by one of our
regular readers, Joe
Gibbens (who belonged to "Torrith"). The
Sports Badges... The badge
system extended to the sports field. Those chosen to represent the school were rewarded with a
badge indicating the sport involved...
These emblems were strips of metal set in blue and edged in
gold. The narrow shape enabled several to be pinned to the
lapels of "multi-talented" and "all round"
sports people.
Drafting Note: Can
anyone provide further details of other types of badge? |
