with thanks to David Flynn & Tony Kemp

Introduction

We would like to thank David Flynn for taking the trouble to scan and email this photo of the Sir William Nottidge pupils of 1959. We would also like to thank Tony Kemp for furnishing David with the original copy.

Sadly, we can't show you the whole picture in one go but we have managed to divide it up into screen-sized portions. Here are a few notes to help you find you way around:

1 The photo has been divided into 8 sections (A-H). As the sections overlap slightly, we have put a blue haze around pupils who are covered in another section. So, ignore the blue Smurfs
2

Pupils are numbered Some are yellow numbers... some are blue. This is purely to ensure that the numbers stand out against the background. The colour has no significance. So, ignore the colours.

3 Pupil numbers have placed as close to the neck/upper chest of the pupil as possible.
4 To avoid overcrowding the photos, we cannot use three digit numbers. Thus, the numbering starts at "1" in each section.

So, if you want to contribute names, specify BOTH the Section letter AND the pupil number when naming an individual (eg  Pupil number 34 in section A is "A34"). Always place the identifier before the name. So, if you think it is Donald Duck, simply write "A34: Donald Duck" and email us at whit@oysta.fsnet.co.uk .

Remember that we have more than one photo... so, please mention the year (1959) somewhere in your message

5 Where conflicting information is received from different sources, we show names in red in the hope that other readers will resolve the discrepancies.

We will add names to the charts as they arrive from our readers.

Always In Our Thoughts...

Sadly, we have learned that some of the pupils featured in the photo are no longer with us and we would like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to relatives and friends.

We have pondered the question of including a note alongside the names but we have come to the conclusion that it would be unwise to do so. Whilst most reports come from firm sources, others may be based on hearsay. Furthermore, after 50 years, memory can play tricks when it comes to relating names to faces and there is a danger of mistaken identity.

Rather than risk errors that could cause distress, we have decided to exclude the information from the article. We hope that this will not be seen as disrespectful but as a genuine attempt to do what we feel is right in the circumstances.
