| Song Origins
Yes..... after 50 years, some of our readers
still recall the Sir William Nottidge school song.... and its
composer...
| Anyone interested in a rendition of the school song?
It was written by the then music teacher, Mr Manly who later
married the
delightful gym mistress - Miss Pritchard.
I don't know why I still remember the words after 47
years. It must have been something to do with taking the
responsibility of being a TORRITH prefect very
seriously!!

Well, it took a little while but Brenda and Ann Nash (Whitstable) reached across the
internet to reconstruct the verse from memory..... Linda
Farrington provided documentary evidence ... and David Harvey supplied the
music in posh crotchets and quavers.
The Words....
The following extract comes from Linda's copy of the School
Prize Giving program of 1960....

The Music....
After a worldwide appeal for help, David Harvey came to the
rescue with the music sheet....
|
Dave,
I have dredged up the music from my
memory of 45 years ago when I attended my last assembly
at the school,. So, if anyone has a handy harmonium they
can give it a go to see if it agrees with their memory.
Verse....

Chorus....

Of
course, I can’t make any guarantees that it’s
accurate, but this is how I remember it.

I don't know about harmoniums... but I reckon a few
middle-aged ex-pupils might be scurrying around their cupboards
in the hope of finding their long lost recorders at this very
moment. |
