Whitstable has never been a hot spot for nightlife and the war further curtailed options and activities. However, John Harman identifies one centre of activity and some ways around the curfew....

  

Nights Out in Town

 

In the war, the Parish Hall was the one place at which dances were held.

These were attended by soldiers and those younger persons who were still home with important work. As there was a 10 o'clock curfew between the main street and the seafront, my brother Ray would come home through the back alleys and over the fences.
